GEORGE GRETTON TOO SOON

We’re hyped to introduce yet another new name to you, dear reader, and so take note of George Gretton. The singer, songwriter and producer has caught our ear with sophomore single ‘Too Soon’ - a super fresh concoction of dancehall-inspired steel drums, left-field electronica, and Gretton’s lofi-pop vocals. The Nottingham-born musician wrote ‘Too Soon’ shortly after moving to London to pursue a career in music and around the time he was dealing with family bereavement and mental health issues. The open-ended meaning of Gretton’s refrain, “it’s too soon for me,” allows the listener to interpret this sentiment in whatever way they relate to: too soon after the end of a relationship; too soon after the loss of a loved one; too soon after an injury; too soon after any number of life events. There’s also a sense of escapism in this track, we can put aside these emotions, say “I’ve had enough,” and momentarily get lost in the hedonistic arrangements of ‘Too Soon’. We feel pretty excited about this UK newcomer, and if you’re feeling the same, be sure to check out George Gretton’s earlier track ‘Tread Water’. - Hannah Thacker
